Presby-LASIK
This is a special type of excimer laser procedure that is used to correct presbyopia (age-related loss of accommodation requiring readers).
The main aim of Presby-LASIK is to correct residual refractive error and enhance depth perception. The focus point of the 2 eyes is made slightly different, dominant eye for distance and non-dominant eye for near so that they overlap in the middle creating clear vision at all working distances. This is called “blended vision” in which the 2 eyes work together.
This differs from “mono- vision” where the difference between the 2 eyes is too high to fuse by the brain and the “out-of-focus” image is suppressed to create clear vision. “Blended-vision” is more natural and therefore better excepted by the brain. Not all patients are candidates, and your doctor will perform the necessary tests to determine eligibility.
